Luigi Rosselli Architects have been presented with a second opportunity to design a chapel; this time is the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Fabricated from sheets of Corten steel formed into a boat-like structure, the chapel sits on the banks of the Ashburton River and is designed to float atop the floodwaters during the wet season. A lightweight membrane floats over the congregation, sheltering them from the elements.
A previous chapel design for a property in Adaminaby featured a conical roof floating above the ground - allowing 360º views of the landscape, and with the tip of the cone sliced off - a dramatic view of the sky.
